Nearly eighty years ago, English seed merchant and entrepreneur Samuel Ryder founded the Ryder Cup. A professional match between the USA and Great Britain which has become one of the greatest sporting events based on prestige rather than money.
The PGA of America has announced that The 37th Ryder Cup at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, will be played from 19th -21st September, 2008.
The biennial contest will be the largest international sports event held in Kentucky. Valhalla, designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1986, has been host to the 1996 and 2000 PGA Championships, the 2002 PGA Professional National Championship and the 2004 Senior PGA Championship.
Valhalla Golf Club, ranked No. 70 in the most recent list of America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses, was the scene of Tiger Woods' PGA Championship playoff victory over Bob May in 2000.
